I say Israel did good playing Santa Clause this Christmas. The leather jacket is such a decadent caramel color, and the shoes are made of a beautiful evergreen suede with the softest calf leather for the heel. It's quite exquisitely made. Hopefully I can shoot some outfit shots soon with both of these things. Love the rich colors. It reminds me a lot of my recent moto Napa trip up to Big Sur with Israel that I still have yet to post pictures from! I wanted to wait for the short film of the documentation of the Prohibition trip that is soon to come out, so you guys can get the whole sha-bang of what the trip was about. All I will say is 14 hours of riding on the back of a motorcycle, with a total of 1400 miles to cover up and down California with 17 other biker dudes, is not just any ol' ride. Oh winter, you inspire with such tame and beautiful colors, as well as luxurious materials that lay gorgeously against different textures. Today I am going to Opening Ceremony to pick up some shoes that I have been eye-ing. Only because these other Alexander Wang shoes didn't quite work out too well, due to my continuously shrinking feet. Bahumbug.

My boyfriend, Israel, bought me this beautiful caramel leather jacket that I cannot just wait to wear so I can incorporate properly all the things that I've been lusting over that epitomizes what a winter wardrobe is to me. Beautiful soft supple leathers, perfectly over-sized knits, silks, vintage furs, and beautifully crafted shoes to tie everything together. It's sale season, and I'm here to finally indulge and do some gifting to myself. Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday! I thoroughly enjoyed getting absolutely fat. Thank you holidays for giving me an excuse to be obese. Now off to the grind, 2012 you're looking promising and oh so busy.

We are now official! No we haven't tied the knot! But we are supremely excited to announce that the store is now officially moving forward!

It was only a moment of time, when just 'talk' or 'dreams' turned into motion and a possible reality. A simple chance meeting of fate led to a solid friendship and a shared passion for fashion. Honestly, before I was introduced to Karen, I was a mere twinkle in the fashion sky. An exclusive avid vintage thrifter, to starting to realize the boundless world of 'REAL' fashion, (*cue in Karen), who opened my universe to the luxe world of Stella, Prada, Marni, ALAIA, Chloe, Helmut Lang, Demuelemeester, and everyone else in between. Our closets together turned inside out. So after much anticipation since the announcement of this grandoise idea...which may have started to feel like it would be a faint memory, became a solid registered business corporation as of today!

Stay close, for more updates and the soon-to-be adventures of Karen and I through the building of BUTTONS AND BOWS the store! If you ever liked what we sold in the past through the ebay site, then you are definitely in for something more!

Well, hello again.

Finally have some time to blog again and share things I love the most. I've come across this new blog. Well new for me, kind of. I've been following it for a little bit now, and thought I had to share the wealth. There are so many style inspiration blogs that spurt out of fashion capitol New York, and every other European country...it was quite nice to run into this one. Closetvisit.com features from what I can gather, local Angelenos who showcase their personal style through their closets. I found quite a few people I knew on the site and it was quite refreshing to see closet visit capture through its many diverse fashionable subjects the essence of California style which to me is laid back, effortless, a mix of boho, rocker chic and everything else in between. To add to my many list of regular perusing obsessions you must have a go here. It's like the The Selby of all your girlfriends' closets that you've always been secretly agonizing over, now available to incessantly lust over.

Well, well hello.
Been a bit on the MIA tip, but that's nothing to be surprised about. Just moved into a loft in downtown, so between movin' and a shakin' this ol' gal is just trying to keep up with herself. As you know, Karen and I are putting a store together. So here at buttons and bows headquarters we've put a slight halt on selling anything and keeping inventory for the store. But in this special case I am selling men's/unisex stuff...so just this once until we get things up and running, you can get your hands on some major "collector" pieces many from Jeremy Scott to this sweater that I'm wearing that belongs to my friend Brian up above. It is going to be one of many that will be for sale. The coveted Chloe cardigan is just in time for the fall winter season and it is just absolutely luxe. I want to keep this for myself.

This post and introduction is overdue. I won't say too much, because the interview below written eloquently by our dear friend Annie over at Fidoo did an amazing job on capturing Karen in her purest element. The reason why it took a minute to even post this was because I wanted to make sure I had nice sized photos to encapsulate the fabulousness that is Karen. Spotlight: Inside Karen Marley’s Fabulous Life

All too often, the lives of iconic figures provokes a curiosity in their kin almost as much as the figures themselves, especially if they follow in their parents’ footsteps. Take for instance famous babies- Nicole Richie, Sean Lennon (son of John Lennon & Yoko Ono), Zoe Kravitz (daughter of Lenny Kravitz & Lisa Bonet), and countless others who are all too familiar with the daunting reality of the public eye. But there are some celeb-kiddies– no matter how famous or even iconic their ancestors were– who have kept far away from the limelight. Meet Karen Marley, daughter of the late reggae music icon Bob Marley. Growing up among her many brothers (Damien, Ziggy, Rohan, Steve, Julian, Kymani, Robert) and sister (Cedella) everyday was about music. While all her siblings were following in their father’s footsteps pursuing careers in music, Karen went a different route, drawn to the beauty of design.

She started an interior design business and store in Jamaica, offering creative services and consulting. Later, she migrated to London where she attended Vidal Sassoon to amplify her love for chic aesthetics– a move that would ironically lead her to dabble in property development. In more recent years, she has worked with Cedella as assistant designer for Catch a Fire. Karen also represents the Marley legacy within various business dealings– Marley Coffee, House of Marley, and Cedella Marley Design. CMD is busy working with the Jamaican Olympic team designing the ceremony, podium and on-track uniforms for Puma, an absolute honor for the fledgling business. The next step for this Marley is a joint venture with good friend, Monique Aquino (AKA Dillon Delacroix)- the uber cute blogger we interviewed here.

Marley– who radiates her father’s unforgettable smile to a tee– invited us over to her gorgeous serene home to gab about things she loves, hands-on projects she is currently involved in, savvy shopping, and other insightful tidbits into her live. We couldn’t help but go through her fabulous wardrobe– which had us dying, reviving us back to life, and dying again. Yes people, it is that good!

What is the best thing about being a Marley? KM: It’s just being associated with such an iconic legend whose positive vibrations have continued for so long and still will continue. His messages have always been about peace and love, taking care of our youth and taking care of our mother earth even before the green movement was “cool” per se. Also, the fact that we are such a large tight-knit family. After my dad passed on, I went to live with my stepmom Rita Marley when I was eight-years-old, and she is and has been such a tower of strength and love and has always been a powerful influence on me. Love our family unit.

You pursued design and beauty versus music like the rest of your family, what is it that sparked that? KM: Well, first of all I can’t sing so that’s kind of a drawback!! I think our family is such an eclectic artistic bunch, it just seemed natural. But if I had to really think about it, I guess it started when I was really young and still living with my great grand parents and I would constantly bug them to help me move furniture around. Also, my great grandmother had a sewing machine and I’d always sit with her as she did her thing and ask her to make stuff for me. From there, I sort of just developed an eye for design, fabrics, furniture (old or new), aesthetics, color and it’s effects on mood. We then decided to open a design store that we added to the interior design business.

We hear you are opening a boutique with Ms. Dillon Delacroix of Buttons and Bows LA..tell us how that venture came about.

KM: Monique and I met a few years ago and one of our first conversations was about what we wanted to do in the future and we both had the same idea. We both wanted to own a store. It took a minute to manifest, but everything in good time. I feel like this is the perfect time. It’ll be a resale venture, but we will also have a buying counter.

What other projects are you currently working on?

KM: Well, right now I work for my sister Cedella of Cedella Marley Designs. We are currently collaborating with Puma to design for the Jamaica Olympic team for 2012. We had to do “on-track” which is what they will wear in competition, “podium” which they’ll wear to collect their medals, and “ceremony”, worn on the opening day before the actual competition starts. We’re really excited about this, we had our first fittings a couple weeks ago and that went well, just a few tweaks to be made, Cedella is busy doing all the press and interviews now as well.

What is currently playing on your ipod?

KM: Of course my Dad, I love my brother Stephen’s stuff so all his music is on there. Pretty much all my family. Gregory Isaacs, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Gnarls Barkley, Janelle Monet and just some other random stuff, a lot of house music especially if it’s disco. I don’t sing but I do dance my heart out.

If your friends were to describe your style, what do you think they would say?

KM: I had to ask Mo for this answer because I just usually like what I like. I don’t know if I would say I have a specific style. She described it as eclectic, understated, modern luxe with a somewhat classic feel. I try and buy stuff that I can keep forever.

Who are your favorite designers?

KM: I have a bunch. Stella McCartney, Alexander Wang, and Helmut Lang, I like the timeless beautiful silhouettes and their clothing always seem timeless yet modern.

Where are your favorite places to shop?

KM: Des Kohan is definitely a favorite of mine. Net-A-Porter, Barneys (I love having lunch there, then shopping after, you need energy to shop), Pixie Market, Painted Bird, Opening Ceremony, La Garconne, ASOS and American Apparel (here you can get all your staples at reasonable price), I love it all!

Your neighborhood (Mid-City proper) seems very up-and-coming, what spots do you frequent?

KM: I have a few faves. There is a little french bakery that has the best little fruit tarts La Maison Du Pain. Another fave is Bloom– I love this place because it’s about time we were offered healthier choices in our neighborhood. They do have fresh juices and I love the cleanser. Also, the owner of Bloom owns Chic Wine Bar which is awesome because it is a wine bar and their menu is pretty decent as well. Both also deliver which is also a plus. Wi Jammin is a Jamaican restaurant within walking distance from me and it’s perfect because I can get my Jamaican food fix while reminiscing about home.

What staple piece would you advise every gal to have?

KM: A really awesome statement necklace because that can dress up anything. I am big on accessories, as you can tell. I love Annie Costella Brown, Gabriela Artegis, Hoorsenbuhs. Marni usually has awesome stuff, Lanvin as well.

Let’s talk shoes..oldest pair, newest pair, most comfortable pair, and finally, a pair you are obsessing over?

KM: My newest is Miu Miu polka dots platforms, they are such fun. My oldest is probably my silver wedges by Prada and most comfy I will say all the Marni’s. And lately, I’m obsessing over Pierre Hardy.

Tell us about your most recent shopping purchase?

KM: I scored big time with an epic Lanvin feather necklace for less than $200, as well as my cream crochet top from Painted Bird that was about $20.

In your travels, what do you find always makes it into your suitcase?

KM: Jeans and an awesome pair of shoes for those unexpected parties or dinners.

Where will you be jet-setting to next?

KM: I think New York to attend some business meetings for Marley Coffee…any reason for a trip to The Big Apple I am down.

What are 4 things you can’t live without?

KM: My son Nesta’s love and support, Water, Kamboucha and my phone.

What do you remember most about your father? Which of his songs make your heart pitter patter?

KM: I don’t remember much because I was only 8 but I do remember one story in particular. I was spending the day with him and when it came time to eat he was sitting with me. Some sort of spinach soup was in front of me and I did not want to touch it with a ten foot pole, but he sat there after everyone was done eating to make sure I ate it. I probably took a few bite, but I was a stubborn little girl, I’m not sure who won that standoff! It’s funny to think of this story now because I love food so much and really love to cook. My son also loves to cook. Our family is really big on family time which usually revolves around food and cooking.

When it comes to my dad’s music, I honestly can’t pick just one song, I really truly love them all. The one that does get me a little emotional if I had to choose is No Woman No Cry (if I had to choose one).

Well, well....laborous weekend indeed (but not really). Took a step out on Sunday to go check out my favorite musical selecter of all time, Harvey, at the Standard hotel in downtown. I loathe that place only because their sound system is more like listening to music from speakers coming out of your car radio, (sucks balls) and usually the scene..is well...er..uh...sceney. But you can't beat the spectacular view of the engulfing skyscrapers, which to me never gets old, while you dance with the sun and pop continual bottles of Chandon champagne. Hard life. I was a little worried about the motorcycle ride there, because my outfit was a bit ridiculous on a bike wearing 6 inch heels and all, but the entrance to the hotel made for an editorial one. What I thought was just a simple bat wing top from Saint Grace, actually made for a dramatic effect half tucked into my bottom bathing suit. Who woulda thunk? I felt like a gypsy quasi hooker, but I got a ton of compliments about the outfit, so I decided to post these pictures even though the quality might not be up to par.

Oh yes, for those of you who don't know...I do spend a lot more time with my music blog. Go and check it out, there are tons of FREE downloadable goodness for you to not check out. I'm putting out mixtape #10 as we type. It is my ode to summer, which to me was one of the best ones I've had in a long while.

Things have been busy at BBLA headquarters, and needless to say sometimes it's just too hard to keep up with oneself some times. In case you haven't viewed the lookbook from last month's past, there will be a few pieces from here that will be released with this batch including the Vena Cava dress, which we have gotten so much good feedback on. That jewel-toned color is absolutely the perfect splash of bold color for the summer!

All of these dresses were hand-picked with summer on our minds. They are perfect for whatever occasion.

Won't be doing a huge release of inventory, but will be doing it in small increments. Nevertheless, the opportunity is still there for the taking! Look out for designer bags, sunglasses, and the most adorable coveted apple necklace by Marc Jacobs that was made famous by Alexa. You know we love her over at BBLA. Le duh.

So as I was packing up the inventory this morning for the new batch of store goodies I was shooting today, I came across a long forgotten (but not too long) purchase from Gilt. F-that company. Just kidding. Now I am forever indebted to them for allowing me to purchase these at a below fraction of the original retail price. I have had the biggest shoe boner for these ever since I previewed them last year at Project in Vegas last year.

I am not like most 'fashion' bloggers out there, where I can or just buy things on the whim, but I do surely obsess about things and rely on the good graces of the shoe gods to let them come my way by shoe-sale fate. Low and behold....It's safe to say, hot damn patience is a virtue!

These 5.5" sky scrapers are the most ridiculous and comfortable things I have put on my feet as far as height and comfort is concerned. Much more so than the Litas, hands down. Yes, I said it. The rich, deep berry bordeaux color is just too much to handle, and surprisingly enough goes with everything!

Luckily for you, I'm the gift that keeps on giving and I don't like keeping secrets. But let's just not get caught together wearing them at the same time. Spent a lovely quasi leisurely day with my friend Simone in hipsterville (Los Feliz), California yesterday. Initially it had purpose as I was going to drag ass to Squaresville and sell my vintage goodies to them, but of course the one day I come is the only day they don't buy. Of course.

Opted for the girly look of my new Viereck dress (which by the way was absolutely the way to go on this hot and sticky day), but decided to tone down the girlyness that is not innately me with some tom-boyish oxford accents which settled my dainty nervousness at ease. I am still adjusting the playful style of dressing up with my new hair cut. My already young-looking ass in conjunction with my new hair cut is not making it easy in trying to NOT look like a pre-pubescent adolescent.

Simone just got her hands on her latest baby, a Canon G12, so we played around with some shots. We found this one beautiful midnight blue-colored wall and the saturation of color was just stellar. Shortly after we came across the infamous Figaro eatery on Vermont and indulged in their happiest of hour.

You surely cannot beat the $4 cold rosé wine, nor their daily special cocktails at $6 a pop. Oh yes don't let the price of $5 for either their escargot or generous portion of the beouf carpaccio deter you from the delectable quality that is so undeniably French. Make sure to sit and dine Al fresco to maximize full enjoyment. It is absolute utopia sitting outside people watching, watching the sun set, and sipping on cold libations after a hot and sunny day. Yes, the tables are set really close together, but that ensures for a serendipitous encounter with strangers that give you some worth-while, life-changing conversations. Isn't that right Simone?

Again, this is why I love LA. You don't ever have to go so far to be transported into another distant and ideal reality. It's always yours for the taking, as long as you are willing to venture out and take it.

I was sent over some stellar pieces from the lovely sisters Hannah and Wendy of Observe the Found-which is a line that consists of one-of-a-kind pieces. Their pieces are fun, unique, and a reinvention of conflict-free pieces that transcend to current silhouettes for the season. OTF pieces are rediscovered from all over the world, hand-selected for luxuriant fabric and beautiful detailing.

My friend Ja (who I've known since the weeee early days of high school, whoa) and I, have had a recent reconnection. Working as a professional photographer these days, we decided to roam the streets of memories past and photograph in some of the most historical areas in downtown Los Angeles: Chinatown and Olvera Street.

Chinatown: The first Chinese was recorded to be in Los Angeles in 1852. Continuous settlement began in 1857. By 1870, an identifiable "Chinatown" of 200 or so was situated on Calle de Los Negros - Street of the Dark Hued Ones - a short alley 50 feet wide and one block long between El Pueblo Plaza and Old Arcadia Street. These early, mostly male, Chinese were mainly laundrymen, market gardeners, agricultural and ranch workers, and road builders. Despite the heavy discrimination in the late 19th century, Chinese held a dominant economic position in the Los Angeles laundry and produce industries for several years of this period. Consequently, old Chinatown flourished, expanding eastward from the Plaza across Alameda Street and eventually attaining a population of over 3000. The Exclusion Acts inhibited any real growth for many years.

Olvera Street: is in the oldest part of Downtown Los Angeles, California, and is part of the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. Many Latinos refer to it as "La Placita Olvera." Circa 1911 it was described as Sonora Town. Having started as a short lane, Wine Street, it was extended and renamed in honor of Agustín Olvera, a prominent local judge, in 1877. There are 27 historic buildings lining Olvera Street, including the Avila Adobe, the Pelanconi House and the Sepulveda House. In 1930, it was converted to a colorful Mexican marketplace.

Well kids that was my history lesson for the day. If you like the clothes that you see here from OTF (Observe the Found) Hannah is having a fashion show this Saturday (tomorrow) and I'm sure will be available for purchase sooner than later.

Well I done did it. The Alexa Chung bug bit me in the ass real hard, and the only way to cure was to procure a hair cut.

Haven't taken any decent photos of myself with the new do yet. These pictures are brought to you by the courtesy of my new Macbook. Being a PC user for so long was not the business and I am so happy to be rid of that garbage that I called a computer....although I guess it served me well..enough.

I must say...having long hair and that being a woman..you know it's hard to part ways. Long hair defines a woman as sexy and womanly almost instantaneously. I'm not going to lie and tell you I don't miss it. I love waking up with bed head...not bead head cow licks....ugh.

But what I do love is the feeling of reinvention and being able to now divulge myself in my closet and play dress up once again. I was feeling a bit uninspired..but this hair cut is definitely getting me to wear more dresses...dresses in where I felt like my long hair in conjunction with body con dresses made me look like a slut bag for some reason. That's just me. I'm all about understatement...you know? I'd rather see someone's style or sexuality shine through, through the clothes that they wear, not by the body parts they choose to expose. It's not wrong in anyway, but it's just my personal preference.

If you're in the Los Angeles area my dear friend Chevonne at GoodForm gave me my hair cut. She's been cutting my very short hair styles since the early 2000's and I rarely trust anyone else to give me any drastic cuts except for her. GoodForm also is responsible for cutting the likes of Shannyn Sossamon, Chloe Sevigny and many more indie super stars that usually don't flock to the likes of Chris McMillan.

So....heh heh. Better late than never. My freaking moto for life. Well, it wouldn't be right if I didn't share some love for Viereck, and of course some personal info about me that Cookie Dubois has amusingly captured. I've never been interviewed before, so if you want to know my personal thoughts on what's trending, how I feel about the saturation of bloggers, and how I came to create the other 2 blogs, read on....

Wow. This girl. I first noticed her on facebook…lemme see…I believe her post was “Liking kcrw this morning. I bet Jason bentley got laid last night.” Crass….yet thought-provoking. I said to myself, I like dis bish. She funny. I clicked on her link to www.buttonsandbowla.com and fell in content love. Born and raised in Los Angeles, this girl with the constant kiss lips started blogging not out of a desire to become the next Hemingway in Hermes, but because of her facebook posts. “Believe it or not the vehicle or “push” to my writing started with feedback from friends in reply to my facebook stats…People would say, ‘Hey, you’re kinda funny…or you have a great writing voice, or you really know how to use facebook – you should really do something with that.’…I wanted to take it to another level and share with the world. With that being said, the next step was to blog”. Well THANK GUCCI she did! Her fashion blog is not only professional and relevant (her article on the Sartorialist’s love affair with fellow blogger, Garance Dore, almost made this cold heart melt a little…almost) she has since expanded her repertoire with themixtapefiles.tumblr.com, my new go to place for rad music, and a new food blogthedelectabledelacroix.tumblr.com. The food blog kind of boggles my mind though. For how much this chick eats she should NOT be fitting in Viereck. Dillon Delacroix is magical! Peep the interview!

1. Why are you so cute? Why?

Oh boy.

2. How did you go from fashion to food and music?

Like many other bloggers out there was inspired by the infamous blog fashiontoast. I appreciated the way blogs were used as a creative outlet to showcase personal style, inspiration, as well as an exchange of ideas from people all over the world. The whole blogging thing was revolutionary, so I decided to jump in on the movement. In addition to fashion, I found I would just post stuff about food and music (which I feel am a bit more passionate about these days) in the blog, but felt like a hodgepodge of information was getting lost. I wanted to separate all of that so that the information presented could be focused in their own right. So needless to say themixtapefiles.tumblr.com and thedelectabledelacroix.tumblr.com was born, which I am having so much fun with!

3. What’s your favorite Viereck piece and why?

The glock would have to be it. I like how unique and special the Viereck piece was constructed. It definitely can dress up any plain Jane outfit, and still make you look super stylish.

4. What trend do you despise right now? Love right now?

Listen, I am all about crochet and sheer everything just like everyone and their mommy is at the moment. It just kills me when whichever trend is happening, it’s just rarely executed right. It’s just all about execution that either does it or doesn’t do it for me. Oh yes…one more rant..I am guilty of owning a pair of the Jeffrey Campbell ‘Litas’…I mean they’re the most comfortable and tallest shoe I own, but I say we need to kick back on the 20,000 patterns that they are coming out with. Leave the leopard, the American flag, and lace patterns at home folks. We got it right the first time with the leather and the 5 other colors.

5. What are you going to school for?

I’m finishing up school in Business Marketing. I didn’t want to go to school to learn fashion, because I felt like that can be self-taught (with the exception of design of course). There are endless amounts of online information resources to fuel that field. I really wanted to learn about something that I felt could be useful and valuable in any field and business was it.

6. How do you decide what to wear each day?

Well, I abide by the rule: You have to look good to feel good. I need to dress how I’m most comfortable and that all depends on where I am going, how I will spend my day, what kind of people I will be meeting with, my mood, etc. There’s hardly any pre-planning involved. It’s mostly like “does this go with this, cool.” Most of my wardrobe pieces are basic, but with thoughtful design behind it. No glitter, no graphics, barely anything with primary colors, etc. Easy pieces that can go with a lot of other things in my closet. I’m a no fuss kinda gal. My main philosophy is to go effortless and timeless.

7. Does the music you’re listening to at the moment or say the music you will be listening to (i.e voodoo, Miami, what have you) inspire what you’re going to wear and/or your general wardrobe?

Oh fersure! For instance, if I’m about to go to a Harvey or a Voodoo party, I’m definitely going to channel and evoke some Bianca Jagger flavor! Hahah, not really..but one can strive to do so. When I do go out to some late night parties, I feel those are the best times to get away with murder. Did someone say lace bell-bottoms?

8. What part of LA do you live in – does it inspire you?

Downtown and yes. I wouldn’t live here if it didn’t.

9. How many times can I ask if shit inspires you?

Ja, ja, ja! It’s on a daily and with every waking moment.

10. What do you think about the blogging industry? Do you feel like there’s 50,000 shitty fucking bloggers and 4,000, 0000 douchey DJ’s? This isn’t a personal rant or anything

I will only address it in this regard. I entered the refinery29 contest for the next style blogger. I made it to fifth place and had to check out the other contestants. Yes of course, just like with anything else there will be a saturation of those people that try to make their mark and get in where they can fit in. There are also some amazing view points, ideas, innovations, and thought provoking things out there that has yet to be unearthed. There are moments where I question what certain people want to get out of blogging; how can you not? But because of the saturation you can tell which ones are doing it for more popularity/promotion reasons, and those that you find that really have something unique to say.

11. What’s your favorite song RIGHT NOW?

Oh gosh, really? That is just one of the hardest questions I feel like are so hard to answer. If I must, I’m in the middle of finalizing my playlist for mixtape #6 set to be out April 29th. From that list, I am really digging the energy, happiness, minimal vocals, and peeled layers that are exhumed by this track from Zimmer-Cruisin. So, so, good! The Hercules and Love Affair Painted Eyes track remixed by Inflagranti is up there in the charts for me as well.

12. What stores do you see Viereck in?

Perhaps, some smaller fashion forward boutiques. I wouldn’t mind seeing it in Satine on Third. Perhaps some of the shops on Robertson would be a good fit.

13. Where do you blog? Home, coffee shop, titty bar…where?

Home in the comfort of my beaudoir or work desk.

So..this is where I say...isn't it always better late than never? and this is also where I say, yes I've been such a bad blogger! Yaddy yaddy yaddah.

Well......I have very good reason to be a little MIA. And by little I mean a lot. Been working on getting the BBLA store back into effect-in effect with some solid gold pieces as you can hopefully see. :)

Between finishing up school, this, my two other blogs...it's a hard life I lead...but you know you gotta leave some room for play! Just recently came back from a much needed vacay in Miami. Bianca Jagger, a Nicaraguan born Bianca Pérez-Mora Macias, May 2, 1945 was famously known for being the first wife of Rolling Stones star Mick Jagger. She is the epitome of the "glamorous cool" that was bred from the 1970s. She was Studio 54 royalty.

Typically seen vacationing in Capri in Gucci, Bianca profiled with cutting-edge style and timeless class. However, underneath the glitz and glamor is a socially conscious woman who utilized her life of privilege to bring attention to world issues. From defending woman's rights in Latin America to helping Bosnian victims of ethnic cleansing, Bianca has been tirelessly campaigning for social justice for over twenty-five years. In addition, she is an active member of many humanitarian organizations. Working towards a better world while showcasing timelessly fabulous style.

She is absolutely divine. Besides Tina Chow, she is definitely on my numero uno style icons. For me, style is not about giving into the trends, but being able to have a style all your own that will transpire onto the next or several decades ahead. I mean, if you view and study these images of Mrs. Jagger, her style, her demeanor, and her circle of friends she was surrounded with, you would see she was only destined for greatness. On top of that she still managed to give a shit about worldly pressing matters at bay. Truly inspiring. This woman had it all and all together.

Note to self: Start scouring for fabulous head dresses.

Went on a downtown LA escapade field trip with my friend Linus the other day. He wanted to shoot some film photos for school of buildings and people. I came along for the ride...or walk I should say. Many strange and eclectic finds of people walking on those city blocks. Just purchased those A. Wang boots from Opening Ceremony during their 75% off sale and made out like a bandit. I live a lavish lie afterall, and I do it pretty fucking good I might add.

What I don't do to well is walking around in 6.5" heels on concrete city blocks. FAIL. Those shoes are definitely made for dinner shoes or I-can-literally-walk-to-my-car-get-out-of-it-walk-to-the-dinner-table-and-dangle-my-pretty-little-feet-type shoes. How people do it NY, I am in awe.

I start school tomorrow, and I am dreading it. Here's me diving in with my nose plugged into the deep water that I call Accounting 2 and Anthropology classes. On a brighter note, I am looking forward to taking a writing class solely concentrated on the topic of Jazz music. Surreal! Hopefully it can help me expand my music terminology for my music blog. Which by the way has been up for 2 months and we've gotten a following of 47 followers already. I guess we must be doing something right? If you haven't checked it out, there are some pretty ticey musical gems on there.

Woke up this morning to read about the loving relationship between GARANCE DORÉ, a French street-fashion blogger and illustrator, and infamous Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist in the New York Times. I didn't know or ever gave it a thought to investigate Scott Schuman's love life, but made for a nice interesting read this A.M., one that makes me just swoon in thought about love and fuzzy duddies.

According to The New York Times, French Vogue’s Web site named Garance Dore one of “40 Women of the Decade,” alongside Angelina Jolie and Lady Gaga. Garance Dore is the French equivalent to New York's The Sartorialist, which would make for a rather interesting call. Her move to New York has had many wondering if this was the right move for her, and would this decision cause for some competition against her lover/peer Scott Shuman? She states, 'We don’t have the same way of working,' Ms. Doré said. 'Scott is really like a hunter. He really likes to go out and walk in the street.” She prefers to shoot her friends (albeit, well dressed).'"

Scott Shuman met her around the fashion tents during fashion week. He saw that Garance had the eye, but not the proper camera equipment in order to shoot the photographs she ultimately wanted. As a gesture, from being smitten with Ms. Doré, he gave her his backup camera: a professional-grade Canon EOS 5D with a 50mm f1.4 lens.

During this time Mr. Schuman would purposely stay low key, so that Ms. Doré’s blog could blossom without interference. He didn’t even link to her site. I die.

Had a really cool opportunity to play with my photographer friend Jesse. He brought in his friend Anthony and I got the chance to play dress up. I didn't know what to expect, we all just wanted to shoot some looks for fun and this was the end result! Definitely wasn't use to having my hair being very va-va-va-BOOM! But I welcomed the new change as it added so much glamour to my looks.

Hope you enjoyed the glammed up me...as i myself am not use to it...as you know i'm usually a no-fuss kinda gal. ;O

So here it is. Some photos from last Tuesday's excursion to the Getty. It wasn't really an excursion at all, but it was when you consider walking in 5 1/2" heels dodging children simultaneously at a museum in 85 degree weather wearing thick scuba diving-like pants.

How would I describe this look? Well when putting it together and seeing the end result, I came to the conclusion that...Yup...I look like I'm going to be taunting some bulls today. All I was lacking was a balero jacket to complete the look. Nonetheless, I thought the outfit made for a fun one at a trip to the Getty.

If you have not been to this gorgeous institution in Los Angeles, the views, the gardens, and the exhibits are good enough excuses to go and spend the day there. They also have a grassy trimmed knoll there which is perfect for a picnic. Yes, you can bring a little picnic with you...great way to do something cost-efficient and maybe eat food that you actually like. Museum food can be a little daunting sometimes. Just don't forget to bring a little vino or some bubbles in your little aluminum bottle to make for a complete c'est la vie experience.

Wow! Woke up yesterday and was pleasantly surprised, enamored, and appreciative to find 19 gracious comments to the last recent blog post. Thank you, thank you so much for the kind words. It's been super fun working with my friend Linus, helping him perfect his already stunning craft playing with light and angles, whilst being able to play a little dress up!

This is just a preview shot from yesterday's fun little photo project. We hung out at the Getty Center near Santa Monica yesterday. The weather was an unreal 85 degrees. I didn't know what the appropriate attire would be given that we were going to be shooting at a museum. If you guys know or have the AA riding pants-you know they're goddamn amazing...and they also feel like scuba diving gear due to the thick material which is similar to neoprene. Not so good for an 85 degree kinda day. I was tempted to take my blouse off, but what may seem like a "classy" outfit on the outside, the mesh bodysuit made for a hooker one underneath.

Can't wait to post the rest of these photos as Linus did an amazing job capturing such exquisite natural lighting shots. I hope the rest of the world is keeping warm! Will be paying visits in the very near future! Thanks to the new followers, you guys really know how to make a gal feel out of this world!

Well what a coinky-dink. I'm here wearing another Trosman blouse, and yet again I got it at Wasteland. I seriously don't know how I would be able to live the lavish lie that I lead without them. I am, how you say? Faux Real.

Purchased this top a while ago, but as you can hopefully see with this one, that there are some good details here. The almost detachable top layer, to the front pockets, to the delicate material of the sheer cotton, I mean Trosman's designs produce feminine, demure, and understated pieces that just commands a good following after wearing her gorgeous garments. Thanks to good ol' Wasteland, I have about 6 of her pieces. Love, love, love them and am so fortunate to frequent that beloved haven of second-hand, high-end designer chump change goodness as much as I do. If you're not as fortunate to shop there, you can find her pieces at places like Barneys and other fine luxe retailers, although it will be a pretty shiny penny.

This woman.

First off...the shoes are killer. Shoe boner stats for sure. Out of these looks I like the playfulness and youthful style of picture number three. Super good. How that woman is 36 and can still pull of teenage angst so well is beyond me and goddamn impressive. Scorpios...you know they are multi-faceted. *ahem

The look with the baseball cap resonates trailer trash for me personally, but at the same time I totally get it and what the whole look is about. She's just so goddamn iconic it doesn't really matter. I read a quote the other day...It read something like...(this is not word for word but something to the effect of.)

"Celebrity and Icons are different. Celebrities are people who we breed them to be. Icons are born into themselves."

...which is why this woman can do no harm.

Love the lookbook. As per usual the quirky, vintage-just-rummaged-through-the-goodwill style of her collaboration with Opening Ceremony is always tastefully done. It's the clothes that your girlfriends had in their closet, got it for chump change and reincarnated it into personal style nirvana. You of course hated her and were jealous, only because you're one of those girls that doesn't "like digging." For shame. That's why I think her collection is so successful, because basically it's an edited collection of vintage inspired goodness with better cuts which is rather accessible.

Yea...you can go to any secondhand shop and emulate, but there's some thing here that's worth coveting.

To make up for the lack of style/outfit posts, I decided to put some thing up with a bang..or a bump....obviously. I swear there's hot pants under there. Just been working out the old bunnerooni's....Not.

I got a new shirt over the weekend. These pictures honestly don't do the shirt justice as to how delicate and beautiful it really is. I haven't really been able to do any shopping lately due to tight finances as of late. To deal with my lack of shopping....I opted to go through the old closet and get rid of some things like my beloved Karen Millen crimson red dress, a pair of Alberta Ferreti wool slacks, and some others that I am too sad to mention. I figured if it hasn't been worn in over a year, it's time to give back to the second hand fashion universe.

Luckily, I found a few pieces to make up for it! Consignment/second hand shops are wonderful for disposable fashion as well as finding life long treasures. For some reason Wasteland is frequently stocked with a line named Trosman.

Trosman is a cutting-edge Argentine women's clothing line, designed by Jessica Trosman. The collection is undeniably cool, and are based on toned-down palettes, soft natural fabrics, and draped necklines. Usually drapey, with beautiful and unusual design elements that lend a simplicity to her work while still being understatedly noticeable.

If you guys haven't heard by now I also started a music and food blog. I didn't want my blog to be hodge podge of unfocused information, so I decided to break it up a bit. Follow me if you fancy. So I have to give credit inspiration to my friend Lauren. She sent me a beautiful and thoughtful present through the mail which consisted of a "disposable" flask and a hand made ring. The ring had a picture oh how it was supposed to be worn, and then the flask came with a quote by Walter Scott.

Thank you Lauren, you made it possible to be able to still furnish gifts to the ones you love, even though you have to work with what little you got. I mean I have thought about her present each day..thinking wow....that was f-ing genius and thoughtful at the same time. Gonna COPY CAT!

So for about $25 for the actual gifts (sans jameson bottle), and then another $15 for packaging I was able to buy presents for 5 people. THANKS IKEA AND TARGET!

It's interesting how much harder and more outside the box and time you have to spend giving something with literally very little...but in the end result, creativity flourishes and thoughtfulness (hopefully) ensues. I have to say, these will probably be the most thoughtful presents I have ever given. For reasons 1) I literally have spent everything that I have. 2) These gifts are catered to these specific people in my life.

1 inspiration for 1 gift idea was the WHISKEY SET. I wanted to get this for my best friend..which was a $60 set from teraforma.

I recently just got laid off from work..so funds were tight..but I still thought it was a cool idea..so I decided to make my own.

Couldn't find decent ice cube trays..or whatever...so I opted to make little bottles of Jameson 1 cups.

step 1: Find images via wherever..aka the web

Step 2: To make the cards a little personalized, I typed their name...found a relevant whiskey quote from our good old drunkard poet Charles Bukowski and called it a day. I put an image of a proper whiskey glass on the back side so they got the idea.

Step 3. Pour, duh.

Step 4: Prettify

Onto the next. I can write about this one, seeing as I already gave this present to my friend Cory. Obviously...I bought some random shit...but this was all stuff I knew he needed...so things like an F-ing carrot peeler..could be a cool gift too!

Cory needed a little help in the home and gardens department..so I got him a couple wine glasses and the vegetable peeler...put pictures, etc. I forgot to take a picture of the quote i put on the wine glass card but it read:

(i'm just telling you what i put just for ideas)

"Wine cheers the sad, revives the old, and inspires the YOU."

I couldn't help but make that goddamn peeler sexy. So I threw a little humor in there for good measure.

Last, but not least...his french press died a painful death...so decided to get him a vietnamese filter instead. I got a whole coffee cup set and of course packaged some fresh vietnamese roasted coffee, along with a can of condensed milk... and on the card I placed instructions on how to make a proper Vietnamese coffee: CAFE SUA DA!

Gift for my Ma.

Mom is a bad ass cook. I just discovered this insane asian market in my neighborhood, it is an asian foodie's wet dream. Sorry for the terrible analogy, but you get it. Mom is a cook, but she hates driving and venturing out to get ingredients..so I got together some interesting things to try along with recipes on how to use things like "crab paste." Wow. I also got some items that reminded me of her growing up like almond jello. Loved when she made me that. So here Mom, here is some fun stuff. Now make me some thing.

Mom has a dope sense of humor. Don't worry.

Well. I think this was the longest, most tedious post I have written in a while. Think what you will of this...bad, good, whatever. It's not the best or the grandest of gifts...but they were all made with very little, sprinkled with some love.

...yea...yea...sure sure...you don't want to hear it..but it's mercury retrograde...and what turned out to be a "simple" playlist...turned out to be a huge ordeal. In the process of curating a playlist...my itunes just now decided to take a huge technical difficulty dump on me, by erasing all my files...and having to reconfigure everything...uploading my own files onto the server...and now having to re-import every file one by one....etc...Geezzuzz...

Anyway...sorry, i had a huge bowl of bitchflakes just right now..and i need to get cranking on my 10 page term paper that is sadly due tomorrow. i am on page one.

with that being said...this is my FIRST mixtape that i have put together for you....i haven't been able to write, work, etc...so my creative outlet has been non-existent and i can't handle life right now. so in turn...i decided to devote 3 hours of time (that i should spend on this god-forsaken paper)...on composing what i hope to be a thoughtful playlist for you.

the tip is chill wave...artists range from toro y moi..washed out...a radiohead edit, houses...nicolas jarr....some are old..some are new...but most of all these are on my all time favorites on my heavy rotation list...if you have any questions about the list feel to holler at me. this is not primarily the only thing i listen to...my music is all over the place..but decided to put together something that goes with my mood, the state i am in, the weather today, and something easy on the ears...as i myself need to have as little distraction as possible....although it is some what the sound track to dreamsville...or maybe snoozeville...depends on your take..

Saw this car today and literally almost died. I am not a crazy car enthusiast whatsoever...let's get that straight. I'm kind of an idiot when it comes to stuff like this, but I have a good eye and I can't help love the beauty that is in this car. I've been unintentionally in a red mood color, which is weird as I don't usually like color, but I am welcoming the nice warmth that it is lending to me this winter. I gave in and bought the red tube shoes. I was over it and then saw it in person on someone else, and the obsession to have them rekindled shortly after. I am glad I got them, they really are such a fun shoe. The only con I have with them is that they're noisy like a mother humper. Clonk..clonk...clonk....
Other than that I welcome any shoe that can comfortably add 5 1/2 inches to my wee tiny little sELF.

Life has kind of been on hold...as far as work...I will leave it at that. School is finishing up..and I am debating on what the next move will be. I have gotten several requests to maybe go and do the eBay thing on the side...

Speaking of fox tails...I couldn't resist.

Went to wasteland yesterday and my only mission was to find a nice warm heavy coat seeing as I have none. Zero, zilch, nada. Los Angeles finally decided to go into a cold winter frenzy (around low 60 degrees) which for us is like being in Antartica. Of course that shopping mission failed and I opted to get these D&G linen hot pants instead. At $22 dollars I couldn't pass it up. That's what tights are for! Duh!

I love my little shape shiftr dress. You can wear it as is, or unbutton it and let it be a flowy layer. Makes for a nice dramatic effect. The sheer dress is being sold at the store prime135.com, I am pretty sure that dress is sold out every where else. So snap it up!

Anyway, can't wait to eat like an insane obese person. Stuffing, mashies, mac and cheese, and my friend is roasting a truffle butter basted turkey....by the next post I may look 10 pounds heavier, but I guess those fatty layers will make up for the non-existent coat purchase I made yesterday.

Monday Blues. Another day at the office. Not as bad as it sounds. At first the commute was a drag in theory (i live in downtown and i work on the polar opposite of LA in Hermosa Beach), but pulling up to the lot, walking up the stairs, peering out to look at the moving ocean every day is a welcomed humbling morning experience.

Olivia and I did some exploring around our building and found some fantastic areas to shoot around. We just discovered this yacht/boat repair garage with all these colorful oil barrels. We ran into a creepy mechanic guy that was curious as to what these photos were for, sort of harassed us and asked if he could come along for the ride. I, of course, had to lie and tell him we were both 17 years old and that he couldn't talk to us. Pedophilia, ever hear of it Mr.? That quickly drove him away, thank gawd.

Just finished registering for the Project, Capsule, and EnK shows in New York for January. Super stoked to be going for work, a little apprehensive to be in the cold, cold weather. For us Angelenos, you know that it's a foreign experience. Let's hope I don't die from hypothermia out there. Just kidding, I keed, I keed.

I have been having such a blast with my new HTC evo. The 8.0 megapixels are f-ing ridiculous. The photo apps are even more. Yes, it is effortless "photography," but there is something so precious to experience the view of the beauty that belongs to the eyes of each beholder.

Wow what a doozy. Every day is a doozy really.

Let's see what's new. Same ol' same ol' now just with different pictures. :) Sorry not the best quality of pictures for some, my regular camera is out of commission, and so is my non-existent personal photographer, but hopefully these will do.

Of course I had to post some Halloween pictures...but don't worry, I didn't go for the slutty snow white opt this time around. I was one of the Robert Palmer girls..was easy to do..bought some inflatable guitar..was able to wear clothes, and it was awesome for whoever got it...called it a mother f-in day. Then my friend Eduardo had a voodoo themed party...so that's about as tribal as I got.

School is kicking my butt as per usual, work...is....goddamn exciting. Non stop train on to finalizing everything. I know I've been saying this for a while, but really this operation is just between 3 people: myself, Perry, and sometimes Olivia. But considering that, and the little time we have spent gathering inventory, redirecting the look, and designing everything, I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised. I know I am....every day...it is blossoming into something....something special.

Finally, a little glimpse into what has partly been consuming my time as of late. Just wrapped up LA fashion week. Attended the shows, finished placing orders for Spring....now it is down to the nitty gritty. Had my first hand on working on our catalog and editorial shoots for the new store I am putting together. It really felt cemented this week, when I actually got to play with the clothes, dream up some looks...a little unreal...being able to work every job I ever really wanted to do, and now I get to do a little bit of it all. Seriously, there's not a day that goes by, with how surreal this all is still to me. It's truly beautiful to do something that you love wholeheartedly. I try to remind myself (daily) that it can be a rare experience for most...doing what you love.

It feels like the glorious aspect of giving birth. Not the painful part. To see the slow growth of something, and produce it into something beyond your wildest imagination.

Anyway...The pictures are a little all over the place...but basically this was the past 2 weeks. An accumulation of visiting show rooms, placing orders, coordinating the shoots, model casting, directing...it's been a wild ride..I think the last picture of Dahlia in shape shiftr is probably my favorite.

Also my friend Kara at collar, stand + tie...her pieces are definitely on my top wish list from the store. Love the versatility of it, and the fact that it adds dimension to any outfit, girl or boy.

Yes, although I do the buying for the store, I too have to put restraint...and make sure I buy for the store and not just myself. :)

Just got these in today, after "pre-ordering" these for the month of september, back in july. gosh sole struck is really amazing at what they do. Creating a fear or a sense of scarcity to pressure you to preorder, and then of course only to find out, that 1) They are still selling the damn shoe. 2) in more f-ing colors than a rainbow.

Of course I freaking fell for it, because the same exact thing happened with the infamous Jessica Simpson platform, that everyone was dying over. It was a $90 shoe! Sold on ebay for up to $300 USD. Girls are f-in crazy. Of course they went on sale a few months later, I feel bad for the ones who purchased them at such a lousy price.

I'm a little bitter, but I am taking comfort in the fact I have a new pair of 6" of height to add to my wee tiny self. Still working on what pictures to pick and choose from new york to post here, because there is just wayyy too many...but I am still going to post! My little project for the weekend. :)

Oh ya, if you're in the dark (which you shouldn't be) about which shoes these are, they are the Lita's by Jeffrey Campbell. Offered at solestruck.com, and as I said, they have more colors than that of a care bear pooping skittles.

Whew...i'm exhausted. Had a nice little breather of a trip to NY. It was so so nice to be there. I can't write too much right now, but I just wanted to say that I'm alive. I have lots and lots of photos to share with you, and I can't wait to post!

I only had four days there-due to school and work...but I had to come in to the big apple for a fund raising event for my friend's restaurant that is about to open down there. So exciting! On monday I did do a bit of work...visited some show rooms, and what not. So i was semi-productive. :)

More updates later on in the week! So glad i missed the hottest day in los angeles, which was a whoppin 115 degrees. F-that...I was treadging in the pouring rain the last day in NY, but I'll take that over my burning flesh any day.

Whew...took me a minute to find whatever images I could find, but these few images will do for now. This is the editorial shoot that I worked on for MUSE magazine. For this day we had shot about 10 looks at Smash Box Studios in West Hollywood. The collections used for the shoot ranged from Balenciaga, a Prada latex dress (which Zhang Ziyi's last picture is in), Chanel jewelry and wardrobe for days (I was literally dying), and so much more.

It was a really cool experience, but not gonna lie, being in that whole industry of editorial work is tiring, LOOOOONNNNGGG, and exhausting. But well worth all the eye candy.

It was such an honor to see Yu Tsai in action as well as working with Melissa Rubini.
Yu Tsai is reknowned fashion photographer and has done impeccable work that I'm sure if you don't know about him by now, his work is highly recognizeable. You must click on Melissa Rubini's link too, she has done most of Prada's most recent campaigns, among other things.

On another note....I must say out of the whole issue...I really did enjoy the clothing and shoot of Liu Wen a little bit more... actually a lot more of my stee-lo...duh...
